In this video, I answer a question from Todd in Arkansas: “Aloha:
My name is Todd from Arkasnas. Anyway I like your web site, I found it thru you tube! Very cool. I have a PS3 connected on the internet (wired). I have no idea how to get music, pics, or I guess stream from my pc to PS3? Do u have any videos on this? I also see on my PS3 Driectvpc or something like that. What is that?” First off, that DirectvPC on your PS3 is your DirecTV but you can’t do anything with the media since DirecTV has DRM which prevents that. To answer your main question, I suggest 1 of 3 ways to get media to your PS3. #1 – Get a USB drive and copy data to it. Plug the USB drive in your PS3 and it’ll appear as a source. You can then just copy and move files. #2 – Build a custom web server on your computer. You can then access this server via your PS3 web browser to save files. There are several options for setting up a web server such as Apache and IIS (PWS). This is a more advanced solution but it is very flexible. For videos, make sure you use software such as Redkawa’s http://redkawa.com PS3 Video 9 to convert to a format that you know the PS3 will play. #3 – Buy software such as Nullriver’s MediaLink http://www.nullriver.com if you have a Mac. It ties into iTunes, iPhoto and offers HD video streaming. You can also install software such as PlayOn where you can stream Netflix video and watch videos from Hulu.com. As you can see, there are a ton of options, so I recommend using the one you feel works best for you. Hope this helps Todd!

In case you did not see my previous server room video here is an update to the old video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asSV-zwS7_8
In this update video you will see that we moved part of our server infrastructure around in the server room, as we are planning to move this equipment within the next 60 days to a new server room with better air conditioning and better power conditioning. This old server room is very noisy and gets very hot and does not have space to grow, The new server room alone is costing $50,000 for the air conditioning and power configuration alone.
Our DSL line is a 10 Mb high-speed internet connection, We have 12 servers, of which you only see 8 servers here. The other servers are in other locations due to lack of space.
There are 3 Mac servers, and the other 9 are Dell brand running Windows 2003 servers. They run specialized functions such as providing DNS, DHCP, print server, file server, mail server, data-backup, data base server, Mac Services, web server, ad/domain controller & ad backup, restore images.
In addition, we are installing a wireless controller and new WAP access points to cover 6 floors and gigabyte network switches, with a total cost of over $150,000 so it is not cheap. And that does not include the additional new dual cpu MACS that we are acquiring for the new library and new computer labs.

see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owiesnTHDJs

I will do an update to show the imaging of the new iMacs with 20″ display monitors, they are NICE and very fast!!
see reimaging the hard drive on 200 new computers:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owiesnTHDJs

I foresee that in the future we may need a server for VOIP phone lines, and network video & conferencing services.

In my previous job we used the Shoretel IP phones, and also used Dell brand servers, but in that job we did not have Mac servers, except the one I had at my desk as a intranet (in-house) web server.

Please subscribe now to see more videos like this one.

On March 24, online encyclopedia giant Wikipedia went offline for more than 2 hours because of an overheating problem in one of their data centers. Even though they had had a DNS failover procedure, it was broken. The result: millions of users could not access Wikipedia for hours. This situation is unfortunate for Wikipedia, but it would be even more unfortunate if you were an online business that lost 2 hours of critical revenue. It is not enough to simply have a single back-up IP address and a manual switch to flip as a failover process. Wikipedia’s outage serves to illustrate the need for not just a failover process, but an integrated approach to monitoring and IP failover services that ensures your Web sites will always be up and running as expected. Read Afilias’ tips for IP failover best practices at http://www.afilias.info/node/428
