Keep in mind that currently antiviruses only check for Windows viruses, even on a Mac.

2. Disk images are mountable as part of the basic operating system. They won’t be of much use in piracy, though.

3. VLC is available on the Mac.

  1. Percentage of worldwide Mac users and businesses…… 8%
Percentage of worldwide Windows users and businesses….. 90%
The thing that keeps pulling you back is common sense

if you are mainly java then i would say you go with linux… open source…

if you use visual studio and other *.exe s you should stick with windows.

if you are scared of virus.. then use vista .. it is less prone to viruses but it is so damn slow….

    i use xp..

  3. I am not an expert using Mac but I’ve used it since many of my friends do use them. Software wise such as adobe, vlc, powerdvd, winrar, office, etc, there are versions for mac(most of them come when u buy them). Of course there are usb ports and i’m assuming they accept pc mouses and keyboard(I could be wrong about this one). Alcohol 120 does in mac version, just have to purchase it.

Hardware, they aren’t easy to maintain. I believe you have to send the mac back to apple store or manufacturer to get upgraded for anything.
If you want to plug in your ide or sata drives, you need to get enclosure and use usb ports.

Why not try itunes for playing music?

I found it annoying to program in mac.. but you can program in mac. If you spend extra money, you can dual boot mac and windows and switch back and forth so i guess that wont be much of a problem. Hope this helps.

  4. Anti-Virus is absolutely not needed on a Mac. Really. Don’t believe anything different. I could go on at length about this but I won’t here.

VLC – There is a Mac version. And many like it too.

Window Media player for Mac is now Flip4Mac (They purchased WMP from Microsoft and made it even better!)

Disk image burning can be done my the Mac OS itself! Works great. Toast software is good too.

Photoshop has always been for Mac too. Gimp is available too.

USB ports have been on all Macs for the past 10 years. They where the first.

Your 80 GB Seagate will work and be seen on the Mac.

BootCamp (included with MAC OS) allows you to run Windows fully (natively!) on the Mac at equal speeds to a PC box because it WILL be a PC at that time. Games will work as good as the video card (get that 256MB one or better) will let them!

Parallels and VM Ware can run windows on the Mac at the same time (no re-booting) and runs nearly as fast, just a bit slower for games.

Mac OS is 64bit on all new Macs, so feel free to max out that RAM! 4GB or more!

  5. If you want a computer with easy and cheap upgrades, the Mac is the last place that you should be looking. Not only do you pay more for less (DDR2 RAM for the Mac that is only 667MHz costs over $100 for 2GB. That’s the cheapest that I could find on Tigerdirect. Compare that to my 4GB of 800MHz Corsair RAM that only ran me $80 at the same store.

Without going into all of your questions, let me put it this way:

You are a real computer user, not just using if for flashy gimmicks and the clichéd multimedia uses. So stay with real computers, which are PCs.
